epicormic growth - how nifty!

OK September is nifty fifty and out of my comfort zone but I hope by the last week to feel really comfortable with it all. This gorgeous red growth is a swamp mahogany in the plantation that has been cut back quite hard. You can see the epicormic growth exploding from it and each of these will become new food to cut for the koalas in care. They will take some months to be of a size to cut. In the background you can see some other trees that were cut earlier and have some decent growth on them now.
Very interesting. It looks like they take well to such heavy cutting back.

@tinley23 yes I find they do better being cut back hard than just pruned

Lovely to see a tree that has been harshly cut spring back into life.

As long as the roots are healthy most trees and shrubs will come back. I remember seeing a Forsythia bush flattened to the ground- just stubs of what used to be a rather large bush- and then the next Spring you'd never would have known it'd been cut down so severely! Nature proves time and again there's always a way to come back!
