Mine are very shy so I don't capture them often but I have several families on the property.
They mate for life, and the young stay til 2 - 3 years old in the family unit to help raise they young. I am not certain but I have a feeling this is one that is only a couple of years old.
@robz he's the regular laughing kookaburra but they always have some blue on their wings. the blue wing has a really distinctive pale eye and they don't have that brown band through the eye either.
They are my favourite birds. We have three who visit us regularly and are such characters. Mum called Onewing because she has a floppy wing. She can still fly though. Dad we call Squawk because he always squawks to say hello and their teenage son completes the family
What a fascinating bird. We have a family of doves in our yard, but they stay deep in the bushes on the ground. Sometimes we get a pair of mockingbirds. They raise a single young together and I enjoy watching them guard when the young one practices flying.
