Hubbard Glacier, Alaska

Celebrity Infinity, Alaska Cruise
One of hundreds of photos I took of the Hubbard Glacier - I just couldn't stop taking pictures! It was absolutely gorgeous, and we lucked out on having a beautiful day to see it. I talked to one man who had been on the cruise the previous week, but it was too foggy to even get into the bay to view it at all, so he immediately booked another cruise. I would say this day was for him! The splash in the water at the base is a piece of the glacier breaking off. We saw lots of activity - and the thunder that reverberated throughout the bay was a testament to the scale of this wonder.
It is an amazing sight. Great capture

This is beautiful Kristin. We wanted to take that cruise to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary next month but didn't get our act together in time so will hopefully go next year. Can you recommend any must see/do things we should look out for when we book??

@paulaw ~ Lucky you! I didn't book our cruise, so I'm not sure about all the comparison options between cruise lines, but we were on the Celebrity Infinity, which I thought was pretty great.

It was my first cruise, so I wasn't sure what to expect. If you haven't cruised before, you might be tempted by all the onshore excursions offered during port days. I know I was, but they were pretty pricey, so my sis and I opted just to check out the ports on our own. I had a couple Alaska cruise guide books that included port cities from the library, and we had a fabulous and much more affordable time on our own. Of course if whale watching or helicopter ride are on your bucket list, go for it!

From other cruise reviews, I learned that it is useful to bring magnets (the cabins are all metal and you get a ton of paper info each day, so it was great for keeping us organized) and an extension cord/multi outlet as there were only 2 power outlets in one location - so it was great for charging devices.

We had a window cabin, which was great. I can't imagine no window. Our friends had a balcony, which was very awesome (it would be nice to have breakfast out there every morning - basic room service has no extra charge), but I'm not sure how much of a premium they paid.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the helpful advice Kristin. We don't really think of ourselves as 'cruise people' - whatever that really means but know it's a great way to experience this beautiful part of the world. As it's for a special anniversary we want to make it as memorable as possible so a nice balcony is definitely on the list :) I know the weather plays a huge part and we obviously have no control over that! Look forward to seeing more of your holiday pics :)
