Monarch Chrysalis by kt8ird

Monarch Chrysalis

August 9
I select plants for my container garden to attract hummingbirds and butterflies and this year we've gotten several monarch butterfly caterpillars and we've found 4 of these beauties so far!

Check out the before photo taken Aug 1: http://365project.org/kt8ird/365/2015-08-08

I think it was because of the milkweed I planted. I am going to try to plant more next year. Yes, I am planning on planting weeds....

Oh how exciting! I have a lot of milkweed blooming and check daily - but nothing! Haven't seen one single monarch this year - usually have several of the caterpillars every summer to watch. Boo-hoo. Neat shot of the chrysalis - never caught this stage.

@milaniet The girls and I are excited to see how this changes and turns into a butterfly.

I understand that the incubation period is 10 to 14 days.maybe you can catch the butterfly as it emerges. Great find and capture!

One of nature's many mysteries, this complete metamorphosis... check regularly so that you (and we!) don't miss the coming out event.

@skipt07 thank you! I will plan to go out every night. If I'm lucky it will emerge in a weekend when there are no away ball games to travel to!!
