My Path is Defined. by ladymagpie

My Path is Defined.

Sometime ones life is defined by your social upbringing, or your education and even by your family plans. My life path was defined by my Father's occupation, he being a Senior Engineer in the Military Aviation industry and one time an officer in the Fleet Air Arm.

For that reason my Brother, older Sister and myself became engineers ourselves, pushed, guided and perhaps bullied by our Father. My Sister moved away from it after marriage and family, Brother stopped the engineering and became a policeman, so it was me that had to follow my path that was defined, right up to retirement.

So the picture taken on one of my walks show a well defined path. Crossing a footbridge over the canal, I was worried it wouldn't take my weight, up some steps, over a stile more steep steps and across a busy railway line. There was one thing clear from this path, I'm no longer built for old stiles, but I can still use a spanner and file.

View with the dark background if you have time, it's worth it.
A very meaningful shot. Love your stories.

I like your story, thank you and the very long pov in the shot is great and illustrates the story well, especially in your case following the same lifelong path.

Great narrative to match the story - what field of engineering did you follow?

@virtualbrownie I was a mechanical engineer and ended up as The Quality Manager for a company making large oil and gas metering systems. Gave me a good chance to travel around Europe, America and Canada. My company never sent me to the middle or far east because they didn't appreciate female Senior Engineers telling them what to do. Thanks for asking.

How true. After 13 years of designing and motherhood I gave in and ended up reaching art for more than 20 years. My daughter has refused to follow the traditions of both sides of her family, but now , training to be a chef, she is considering teaching cookery!

What an amazing family. I saw your father was into aviation also. He would love my nephew who builds old open cockpit airplanes and drones. They are so cool to see and ride in. Great shot.
