For many many years I have walked my local paths, fields, canals and woods on my own, in fact in an afternoon I could walk several miles, certainly enjoying the sport of geocaching. I have actually found over 900 within a radius of 25 miles from home, some disappear and sometimes new ones pop up.
For health reasons, and I'm no longer a spring chicken, I'm finding it more difficult to get about, although I have been walking around the village recently. There is also one other reason for my hesitancy these days, that is being alone and being assaulted.
It is something that hadn't cross my mind previously, but I do walk in some quiet locations. This capture is the sort of place that perhaps someone may appear, a narrow countryside footpath near the village farm and between hedges, nowhere to run or escape.
Now you might laugh but I have thought about dropping everything and going into a Japanese pose as if I was an expert in karate and hope the person would run away in fright, no chance. It would probable be more frightening if I took all my clothes off. (Wink)
Anyway I am all alone which once again leads me into one of my favourite songs from the past. Here is the Link:
A lovely footpath. But as we become older nd our bodies just don’t behave as they should it is more frightening be alone.
We no longer have the ability to protect ourselves as we once would. Or enjoy the simple pleasures in the same way.
You are not alone in this that is for sure. Lots of love
Oh very sad song.
A lovely view UP this path. I know that when I’m walking alone I hear a branch snapping in the bush my heart stops. I think I should maybe start singing and that would be enough to scare anyone away, it might be a better option than dropping your draws, unless you have a better voice than me :)
Brenda Lee, it’s a while since I’ve heard her! You're right if course, you never know these days, can’t be too careful....women & dogs have to be in the guard! I’m finding I’m not as good at walking these days either....a slight ache I’m my right hip on a occasions!
This is a very pretty path...perhaps you should get a whistle or alarm or pepper spray, you would feel more confident.
