This beautiful looking building stands in the middle of the High Street in my home town of the 50's and 60's. It's was always known as The Crown & Anchor Hotel and to us scruffy youngsters it was a very posh place.
It opened as an Hotel in 1810 but some of the buildings have been here since the mid 1500's. In the early days Horse and carriages waited outside and the building on the left was where the carriage was garaged, this was in the late 1800's. In my memory it was very expensive limousines outside as we got on the double decker buses nearby.
I found out how lovely it was inside when my big Brother Alan held his wedding reception there in 1965. Why do they give you little items of food in the middle of tea plates, not even enough as a mouthful.
In 1997 the hotel was no more and it became an important doctors surgery, with the carriage store a chemist's shop. Whatever it becomes in the future, it was always be a pretty building and an Anchor spot in the centre of town.
