I've put my sensible hat on today and moved to a village not far away from home. This is the entrance to Frocester Court, a beautiful Tudor style gateway with the building next to it being the gatekeepers lodge.
There has been found here the remains of a Roman Villa, but most of the buildings today are from the mid 15th or 16th century. At one time the property and land belonged the the monks of Gloucester.
It was altered in the 1800's but most of the medieval internals have been retained. Ajoining this lodge, to the right, you can just see one of the most important Tithe Barn in England, and the best preserved, dating from the late 1200's. I must admit that I haven't seen the inside myself but it's meant to be magnificent.
So there you are, many friends would say that I'm one of the oldest things in the Stroud Valleys, but it would be hard to beat these buildings to that title.
That is old HeatherâŚ.we are so lucky in this country to have such ancient history & the buildings that belong to those times still preserved for us all to enjoy. You can just imagine horses & riders galloping through that archway.
