This is a lovely view looking down on the town's old cemetery on the hillside. The building in view is the chapel used for services before burials; it's a lovely building in wonderful grounds.
The older part of the graveyard has been left to wildlife and I have visited it a few times myself for photography. I remember wandering through the long grass, going from gravestone to gravestone when I spotted something on the ground which reminded me of where I was.
There seemed to be rather a lot of corrugated metal sheets lying on the ground, hang on I thought, this place is well known for the poisons adder snakes, and what am I doing here.
I got brave even though I have a fear of snakes, and decided to lift one of these metal sheets to see what was underneath. I must admit I climbed up onto one of the gravestones and reached down with the hook of my walking stick, nothing there so breathe.
The next gravestone was bigger and I decided to stand up on that one as well. If there was a snake it surely wouldn’t climb up here. I slowly lifted this sheet with my stick and something moved very quickly.
I shot out of the long grass like Usain Bolt at the Olympics, well perhaps not that quick, but I wasn't hanging around and left the graveyard. I'm still not sure whether it was a snake or just the metal sheet slipping out of my hook that caused the fright, must admit I haven't been back since.
It is a lovely view over the graveyard & village
