"Ethel, Ethel, this train is very late", "I know Betty we have been waiting here since 1947 and only seen goods wagons up till 1966, shall we catch the bus instead".
I was up early today to take my big Brother Alan for a hospital visit in Gloucester. I had to sit in my car with a numb bum for over 3 hours, so after delivering him home I decided to do a little shopping and get some photography done.
This was the site of Dudbridge Station and it was on the Stonehouse to Nailsworth line and was opened in 1867. Today the whole line is a wonderful cycle track used often by both cyclists and walkers.
The station platforms are still here along with the original benches against the station wall. If you look at the bottom you can see the ramp at the end of the platform and take a straight line is the edge of the platform, the railway lines were on the left. The upright green ivy covered posts are lamps above the cycle track. There is another platform over on the left as well but this is not so clear.
The old railway line was nearly 6 miles long and just think how nice it would be for steam trains to be running through the valleys again. I do remember them pulling goods wagons along here when I was knee high to a grasshopper.
Wonderful memories of the steam trains Heather - I used to love a trip to the seaside by train - usually arriving in our destination , covered in smuts !!! best not to have a white collar or a white cardie for these excursions !
I like how it's become a little overgrown & think it's great that the unused line has been turned into a cycle/walk way.....wish there was more of it here
