Another one from my "Then and Now" series, but perhaps not the best one as my capture was slightly angled. The lady in the 1901 picture has obviously lost the postbox, and was looking to see who had pinched it.
We are back in the town of Nailsworth and in the narrow shopping area. When I came out of the services in the late 1960's I was given a flat above a shop to live in. My view from the upstairs lounge was almost this view. The best part of the flat was that the fireplace shares the same chimney as the next door property, it was a fish and chip shop and the smell was wonderful. That’s my excuse for the size I am today, I blame the chimney.
The building on the right of the hill was The Red Lion pub, long gone into history. Looking closely at the building part way up the hill, at first you think it hasn't changed until you look at the roof formation. It seems to have been given another level at some time. Yet over 120 years not much else has changed, except the postbox.
wow not much change, how good it would have been if the owner of the building on left would have posed for you tho in the now photo to mirror the then one 😂
Wonderful in all those years that only the height of a roof has changed, oh & of course the post box! Interesting story if your shared chimney with the fish & chip shop.
Just popping in briefly with a diary shot and spotted this one. Great narrative. Not much has changed between then and now. Hope the lady found the culprit who pinched the letter box.
