This church holds so much history for me and my family and stands in a pretty place next to the canal. My Brother, Sister and myself went here every Sunday morning in our best clothes before coming home for lunch.
Later I was confirmed here, sang in the choir and rang the lone bell calling people to church. Both my Late Sister and Brother got married in this place to their partners and I have had to attend funerals here for some very close friends.
It is St. Cyr's Church in Stonehouse Gloucestershire, and was first mentioned in a will dated 1543 by a John Dangerfield, who asked to be buried in ye churchyard of St. Cyere. The church is believed to be much older than this with mentions around 1078.
I'm sure it will be going for many more years with family christenings, marriages and funerals.
I have never heard of St Cyr….I doubt there will be any other churches of that name, makes a change from ours which is St Marys. Good to have a place with special memories like that…comforting to go in & remember.
