Catalan dancers at the Feast of St.John

Today is a big, big day in North Catalonia, the Feast of St.John (the Baptist), who is patron saint of Perpignan and the French part of Catalonia (the southern, Spanish, part preferring St.George). Traditionally a bonfire is lit on the summit of Canigou, which can be seen from all parts of North Catalonia, and then flames are carried to each village (you can see the lantern in the picture). Tonight there will be a torchlight procession through the village, a bonfire, dancing of the traditional sardane dance, and then fireworks. This day is bigger here than Bastille Day. So I shouldn't be short of photos for the next few days! The 'blood and gold' flag is that of Catalonia, and these ladies are wearing the traditional dress of the region.
A beautiful and vibrant shot and thank you for the descriptive text.
