Pont du Diable, Céret. by laroque

Pont du Diable, Céret.

I took Mrs.L to a hospital appointment in Céret this afternoon, so took the opportunity to take this photo of the Devil's Bridge. Finished in 1341, it held the World record for the longest arch bridge for fifteen years. There are many Devil's Bridges in France, and indeed Europe, all with a fable attached to them. For this one at Céret, the legend is that the inhabitants got the Devil to build the bridge, in exchange for the first soul that crossed it. Being cunning Catalans/crafty French (take your pick), they sent a cat to cross the bridge first. But then, not being sure whether this was acceptable to the Devil, nobody dared use the bridge for many years
Thanks for sharing.

Well considered angle for this shot Tim. We can clearly get the span of the bridge, its design and the waterway it crosses. Good choice of POV.

Love the reflection. At first I thought it was taken with a fish eye, but it was the reflection that made me think that.
