I've started wandering into supermarkets again. This is the wine section at our local Intermarché. As with all French supermarkets, I can pretty much guarantee that every bottle in there will be French. If I want a nice Napa Valley cabernet, or a Marlborough sauvignon blanc, then I either have to order it on the Internet from Paris or drive 150 km into Spain to a specialist shop. About 10 years ago the rugby World Cup was held in France and this same supermarket made a big thing of promoting 'Wines of the Rugby World'. I went along hoping for great things, but all they had was one wine from 4 of the competing countries - Argentina, South Africa, Australia and the US. Nothing from New Zealand, Italy, Roumania or, god forbid, England.
