Cork harvest by laroque

Cork harvest

These cork oaks were harvested in June. This happens every seven years and the bark is left on the ground over summer to dry.

We have two enterprises here that make corks for wine bottles on an industrial scale, but they use cork from Portugal. According to the guys who were doing the harvesting, this cork is destined for high-quality corks, for champagne and so on.
Such great tones of color!

I knew that was how cork was harvested, but it's the first time I have seen it.

It certainly creates an amazing colour contrast. Very interesting to see as I've only ever read about it.
