A sure sign of spring in my town is the annual herring run from the ocean up a series of steps to a fresh water pond where they lay their eggs. It's pretty magnificent at high tide, when the majority make their move because the gulls become manic trying to catch and eat the herring on their way upstream. There are so many gulls that it's amazing any herring make it at all. The air fills with their screams. Tonight I had a quandry. I took this photo today, but I got a much better one last year, with less blurry gull wings. I wrestled with posting the older one, but in the end decided to stay true to my mission to post a photo from the actual day today. How does everyone else decide? Better photo or today's photo?
I honestly can't imagine that you've gotten a better capture than what you have posted tonight! This is absolutely awesome! You've captured a perfect action shot, and the wings blurred in motion make it even more so! This is absolutely fantastic! And this is a Fav!
Thank you everyone for confirming my choice to stick to the mission. I took 60 photos of the gulls today, and this one was the best shot of the subject, which is the poor herring.
Fantastic capture! I don't beat myself up about taking a picture every day. This project has made get out and take pictures, and to sign up for a class. It has done a lot for me. I do always use pictures taken within a few days of the actual date though. I don't' go back a year.
Personally I always go w/ today over better. I even pick lesser photos over better ones when the lesser one is a better representation of what happened during my day. That's just me though.
This one here is awesome
