On my way home from Vermont I stopped at a couple of farm stands and bought 40 pounds of Roma tomatoes and 8 dozen ears of corn to put up for the winter. After work yesterday I canned 18 quarts of tomatoes and froze 18 quarts and 12 pints of corn. I didn't finish until after midnight and was too tired to post or visit anyone on 365. Hoping to catch up tonight...
wow!! You have been doing some home cooking recently. Do you enjoy to do this or is it really necessary to have in winter stores, or is it just economical? Love this shot....it all looks so organic and homely.
great job Laurie, I do alot of canning to out of our own garden, but this year was a bust, got about 34 quarts of green beans and that was it, the tomatoe didn't do well, or peppers, we had several weeks of exteme 100 degree heat that just fried all of it.... I enjoy canning and sure love it in the winter time. beautiful job of capturing your hard work !!!
Awesome shot, Laurie! Love the perspective and the gleaming rings and jars. I like that you know exactly what went into the jars. I do a lot of preserving as well, totally for the resulting end product, not at all to save money. The jars and electricity are too expensive to save $ ... ;-) There's some self preservation involved too --- if I didn't make red pepper jelly each year, I'd be ousted from the family.
girlfriend, you have been so busy...now you have all the jam and tomatoes and corn you will need for a life time :) love your shot here too...i bet you crashed hard last night.
Wow, you have been busy with the fruits and veggies! No need to worry, we'll be here whenever you have the time. That looks teriffic, and I bet will get you through a lot of cold, wintery days.
@Cherrill@glb484@sunnygreenwood - I grew up on home canned foods so I do it because I know the flavor is better. My parents had a farm and grew or raised most of the food we ate. For the most part my family still eats local food. If I don't grow it, I want to know the farmer who did. We have chickens and buy our milk from a raw milk coop. Unlike most European countries, the US has a dismal record of protecting its citizens from the poisons of corporate agriculture, so it is also about health and politics for me. Thank you so much for you kind comments and interest!
