Getting in the Mood for Gorey by lauriehiggins

Getting in the Mood for Gorey

We spent the evening in Provincetown with our son and middle daughter, having dinner and walking around. My Canon camera battery died as soon as we arrived and it got dark so quickly, so I was a bit challenged with low light and just my p&s. I decided to play around a bit with processing.
Very cool and very haunted!

This turned out beautifully! I love P-town and I have to admit that I'm slightly jealous. Somehow with all the years I was on Cape and with all the times I come back, I've never been to the Gorey house.... I didn't even know where it was until recently!

i feel like ghosts are going to be floating out of one of those windows any minute! excellent processing and way to get the most of your shot!

@melissapike I've never been to the Gorey House either, but if all goes as planned, I'm having my first 365 meet up there tomorrow!

@stepheesue I almost added a ghost, but then I chickened out! I do have another version with a ghost that I made for a close friend who loves ghost stories as much as I do, but for some reason I couldn't quite post that here. I need to learn to be more playful and fun like you!

It reminds me of the Bates Motel from Psycho or a Hitchcock film! The processing is so effective! Have a fantastic weekend! :-)

Cool capture. Looks like the observation tower on the house of an old sea captain. Almost like "The Ghost and Mrs Muir".

Love your photo and the black & white really does it justice!

i love what you did with what you had. the tones are perfect for october...but most importantly happy to hear that you were able to spend that quality time with your son and daughter. i know how important they are to you...and how hard it is to get that time with them as they get older....(we got to take kyle to dinner last night....then he stayed home and hung with us..... ok..so he does have the SAT test today...but you gotta take advantage of what you can when you can...) xoxoooxoxox and as always your comments make me float! I really want to do something with you on a larger scale to make a difference in this world... :)

Nice building, anbd the B/W gives it a cool look, especially for this time of the year. I really like the style of these older structures.

Haunting. Lovely building.

Wonderful job!

It worked out great as this is a magnificent photo. Beautifully composed and love the sharp triangle shaped peaks pointing up I to that gray sky. Looks a bit spooky.

Nice composition

I really like this...it has the right amount of creepy. :-) The processing suits it perfectly. :-)

I forgot to say a couple of things: 1. how are the fruit flies coming along?? and 2. I'm not sure my son (the one still at home) would currently recommend me for ANY job, much less one involving parenting. So Tommy might be better off with you. In fact, come to think of it, maybe MINE should come to YOU!!! ???

You did a nice job with that. Hope you had fun in Ptown.

looks haunting...don't know if the processing made it that way or the actual architecture...it looks great

Nice composition :]

looks like the Adam's family house, yikes. Bummer about the camera battery!

what an incredible sky line. Batteries have the habit of dying at the worst times.

I think u did a great job! the sky looks cool
has an ominous tone to it
do you carry around both cameras at all times?
October 2nd, 2011
Ouch... look at those spires. very nice shot of a kindy creepy house...
October 2nd, 2011
@yoshi I do always carry both cameras at the same time. My husband bought me a nice Canon backpack that holds all my gear and I take it with me everywhere I go, even the grocery store, where I took my photo of the day today.

@robinwarner Ms. Robin, we have so many things to talk about...and I interviewed someone this week who gave me a great resource about how to make projects actually happen...ie funding. I'm going to do some research before you head East...

ditto what stephanie said ... the ghosts were just shy that day but I'm sure they're there somewhere. you and robin will be magic together in any project you take on.

Ooh, I like--and yes, very Gorey'esque
