Poor Cold Tree... by lauriehiggins

Poor Cold Tree...

Today was simply too cold to spend more than a few minutes outside, so this was taken from the parking lot at Crosby Landing Beach. A woman literally froze to death 15 minutes from where I live yesterday while out walking. The newspaper said she was known to take daily walks with her camera. That story made me more cautious than usual. Stay warm and safe, all my Northeast friends!
omg - what a horrendous story! I'm very glad you stayed in your car! This is deceptive as it doesn't really read how very cold I know it is out there. I participated in Jerry's monumental favs thread - my 1000th fav is YOUR'S!!! :) how perfect is that!?

Wow that is so sad. I guess we do have to take precautions Nice shot of a very nice looking area

Beautifully crisp shot. I'm coming to Boston in 2 weeks. Am worried now! Not sure I've got a big enough coat.

Stop making me miss the cape with these beautiful photos. That story was absolutely gruesome. I wonder if someone knows they are dying of the cold or if they just drop.

What? Really! What a story! Your photo doesn't look cold at all! I would have guessed it was a warm day at the beach! You have the best beach shots!

Laurie, on the way back to my car yesterday, I had to walk through 3 parking lots and I seriously was wondering if I would make it and today my throat is a bit rough from the cold. Today I saw a man on Moosup Pond which is half frozen on the surface and half water. Who goes out on a half frozen pond??? I mean it's cold now, but I don't think it's been cold long enough to properly freeze a spring fed pond! Anyway, this photo is lovely. I like the little shadows showing the texture on the landscape.

@orangecrush Oh, Jerry, that's so funny, coming from one of the best beach photographers on 365. But yes, it really was dangerously cold this week, and a woman really did die while walking. Completely freaked me out, and I've been playing it safe.

@stepheesue That actually made my day, sweet friend!

@ptowncook I've actually been reading about this and apparently it is kind of peaceful, which is what makes it so dangerous. Once you stop shivering, you get really sleepy. From what I've read, people just lay down in the snow and die.

A bit frightening to hear about the story but she can't have been aware of what was happening - maybe a medical event! Lovely for you to get this for us!

brrr.......it looks cold!

Beautiful shot, but what a horrible story. How many times have we all trudged out to get "that shot" - dressed inadequately or otherwise improperly prepared!?
