In My Own Little World

At the park recently, I snapped this picture through one of the bubbles in the playground equipment. Thought it was ironic that here is a place where people are supposed to play and move around and have fun, yet my daughter sits there on her phone, looking all pensive! In her defense, she did get up and play with my grandson, but the picture still reminds me that so many times we get caught up in technology that we don't stop to smell the roses.
Great picture...and you are so right. I think technology is taking over. I don't know that I like it but what can I do?

@mrssmith203 As a teacher of 8th graders, I see its impact in good but also bad ways. Torn!

@ginnykoppenhol Thanks, Ginny! I was hoping to catch something significant!

@mcmary Thanks, Mary! What happened to the good old days when we weren't connected at each others' hips with cell phones?? I worry sometimes that the younger generation will lack the social skills needed for face-to-face communication!

This is a very cool photo. Love the tones and processing. I totally agree with you, today's kids are stuck to their cell phones and other gadgets and are not even bothering to acknowledge or say hi to the person next to them.

@ikamera Thanks! It is really sad . . . especially when you see families out at dinner, and everyone, including the adults, are glued to their devices.

@jodimuli Thanks for the high-five on the image, and yes, it is fast becoming a stark reality . . . :(

@lbluejaye8 I worry about this also and I think we're already seeing it happening.

Love the shot 'through the looking glass' - very pensive moment. I ban telephones at the table and grieve that we are being encouraged to take out games, apps, even tv shows everywhere with us. What happened to peace and live communication?!

@filsie65 Good job! Yes, they are becoming so intrusive!! Try teaching a bunch of 8th graders who have grown up on this technology (I'm an English teacher) and I practically have to dance through hoops sometimes to keep their attention!!
