These birds nest on the ground a close distance to the ocean cliff top, this collection were amongst limestone pillars and had the most rudimentary looking nests. They are lucky there are no real predators on the island (except the feral cats).
@jenrobcarr The National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Shire Rangers are doing a lot of work to reduce the feral cats, chickens as well as other introduced creatures such as rats and the crazy ants which all damage the endemic creatures unique to this little island
@shepardx2 The National Parks officers have a good bird monitoring program - they also watch the Golden Bosun Bird Nest - I have assumed they are the ones to have banded the birds
There is a lot of plastic rubbish which washes up here, brought on currents from SE Asia - plastic bags and footwear are most prevalent. I assumed that was where the blue plastic came from.
@jannaellen@alia_801 I think it kept checking to make sue I'd not stolen the egg from under it (from a couple of metres away) @brizmako big lenses help me get my shot in close without upsetting the birds too much @bella_ss I think so too - thanks - it always amazes me how much I photograph the birds here, I didn't consider myself to be a twitcher - but I guess when it is the most obvious wildlife and unlike what I am used to seeing it is not too surprising
@lbmcshutter Really? And here I had imagined you in a sniper's yowie suit leopard crawling in to within a few metres over the course of a day. Sheesh! Go figure ;P
@brizmako yeah the yowie suit helps too ...... it was a cue for you to hint to me that I should go for the 500mm lens and prompt me what I could I achieve if I got it - but you missed it
