Film February - Inside Sultan Ahmet Mosque - The Blue Mosque
On 2 Feb's photo I mentioned my visit to the Blue Mosque and my seeking sanctuary there briefly from the relentless carpet sellers. I found a quiet spot and sat on the floor absorbing the atmosphere and history of the building, still a little amazed that I as a non-muslim and female was permitted to enter and to take photos. I tried to be very discreet about it, especially as there were a number of people praying.
I really didn't know a lot about photography, especially low-light without a tripod so I am pretty pleased it came out at all. The blue-mosque is called blue due to the blue tiles lining the interior, a few of which can be seen here.
In the bottom left of the shot the edge of one of the massive chandelier can be seen - the space was hung with a number of these giant circles supporting numerous glass cones which held electric light bulbs or candle (both had been used). Large numbers of stained glass windows provided further illumination. The ceiling was a series of domes. I'd love to go back and visit again.
Oh that is just awesome... (I use the word sparingly by the way) - what an incredible ceiling - however did they manage to tile it all to such an amazing effect? I can't imagine how it must be like to witness it and try to soak it all in, but this gives me an idea! woah.
Breathtaking, really gives you a sense of the divine/ being in a holy place. I love sacred architecture, especially the ancient buildings . . . amazing the lengths that cultures used to go to to express their faith artistically.
Spectaular Megan! I am so pleased to be seeing....it's gorgeous. Would love to have a crack at photographing in there. :) The domes must be AWEsome. Happy weekend, Les x
Wow, I visited the blue mosque today and almost picked a similar image as my picture of today. However, I really like how you captured it. The colors and the ancle you chose are great. The lighting was very different for me today but from your shot I can tell where the name "Blue Mosque" is really coming from.
Very balloon-esque. In fact, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it might have been the inside of another balloon! The colour in this gives it a very serene feel. Lovely.
