At dawn each morning between 10-18 March the Canberra skyline is filled with hot air balloons. [correction - the launch is weather dependant - if it is too windy the balloons don't fly - @bobfoto thanks for reminding me of this]
Unfortunately, the sun didn't make an appearance for the launch (but did come out later). It is always hard to know where to position yourself for good photos as they drift in different directions depending on the winds. I decided to ride in- my first time of heading into the heart of the city, but before 7am on a Sunday morning wasn't too much of a drama.
I have better shots, but wanted to feature my little scooter as I had photo requests when I was out yesterday. A lady and her daughter (probably about 7yo) were waking out of the supermarket and said "oh wow that is such a cool scooter, can we have a photo please" I was dumbfounded but agreed and stepped out of the way so they could take the photo of it. They were delighted and wished me a happy day. So since some anonymous person took a photo of my scooter I thought it was only reasonable that I share with all my 365 friends.
What a great sight!!!! The balloons look good too...lol! But really that's alot of balloons going up at once, and your little bike looks so cute...especially with the "Ls" attached:) Fave for me:)
The festival sounds fantastic! We often have four or five balloons drifting overhead in summer, but never that many! Your little scooter is pretty nifty too!
@bobfoto very true - I got up early each of those mornings and was frustrated by the lack of balloons flying due to the lousy weather. The festival was what got me enthusiastic about exploring photo opportunities around Canberra, having put it in the cupboard once the travelling stopped.
@bobfoto me too, and one of these days I will get some too, yesterday morning the sun was out but I hadn't figured out how to attach the camera bag to the scooter. One of these days the weather will co-operate on a day I don't have to go to work.
Fun picture! i like your Vespa in the foreground and the balloons dotting the background. It would be fascinating to see that many balloons in the sky at the same time.

Pink Vespa fits right into this scene. If the sky was blue with fluffy clouds, would you try the IR? Or would the balloons not be defined in the sky? Now that I know you have that camera...
