Feeling the need to share a photo that depicts beauty, tranquility & peace, as I'm feeling very saddened & sick to my stomach with the terrorist events in Brussels last night. My thoughts & prayers go out to all those effected by these horrible acts from these cowards. What is the world coming to....and will it ever stop? Will there ever be a time that we will feel safe....both in our own countries, or when travelling? I have a trip to France & Belgium next month, and I know it is a few weeks away, but right now, really do not know what to do. I know that we shouldn't be fearful of these terrorist's, as that ultimately means they have won. I will have to give it some serious thought in the coming weeks.
But anyway, I couldn't go past this photo of "The Church of the Good Shepherd" at Lake Tekapo in New Zealand's South Island, to fit that description of beauty, tranquility & peace. It was taken on our holiday to NZ in November last year....and is part of my "Wind-Back Wednesday" theme. TFL
A beautiful tribute to the senseless loss of life in Brussels. Our world is becoming increasingly cruel yet it is full of beauty if only tolerance could be embraced :)
So true leggzy. We too are booked for an extended trip to Europe. We know that anything can happen anywhere, but I think our daughter is worried we won't return safely. It is awful what is happening around the world.
The peace this photo evokes is what is needed. I was at this place in 1984:)
A beautiful peaceful shot, The events in Brussels have been horrendous but, as you say, to let it affect our lives means that they will win. I remember after the 7/7 bombing in London, the 10 July was the 60th Anniversary of VE day and we went up to London to witness the celebrations. There at the front were hundreds of WW2 veterans marching down the Mall with pride and determination, no terrorist was going to stop them. It was the most amazing atmosphere and I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else at that time. I can understand your dilemma but I hope you choose to continue with your trip and that it will go well for you.
Beautiful, peaceful, spiritual, insightful, poignant... Need I go any further? I love prose just as much as I do the photographs and this - without a doubt - is the best of both worlds. A well rendered commemoration of those who lost their lives in the tragic events in Brussels.
It is a beautiful scene with such clarity and wonderful textures throughout in grass, stone, rocks, seas and yet yes, the contrast is in the sobering events that are so horrific...
@365projectorgjenfurj thank you for your kind comment. It truly is just awful. I'm feeling a bit better about our trip today after hearing there will be increased security for Anzac Day. I hope all goes well for you & your upcoming trip.
@judithdeacon thanks so much for sharing your story Judith...I really needed to hear that about the veterans not letting any terrorist stop them from marching. Ultimately, our trip there is to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of my grandfather joining WW1 & visit the battlefields where he served on the Western Front. He did not let fear deter him, and I think we need to take something from that.
I normally read what people have written under their photo and for some reason, I missed yours and this is a very powerful message of peace. I don't know what your decision about your trip will be but it's understandable is nervous and scared with visiting those two countries right now, things are so unsettled, it's difficult to know what you should do. However it's about honouring a brave man and you're being brave too, by showing the terrorists that they haven't won either. So take care and stay safe in your travels, remember your Grandfather's bravery and what Judith @judithdeacon told you and find peace with your decision. Your photo was a nice way of honouring those who died and were injured.
The composiiton and blue tones are perfect for your message of peace. It is extremely sad and I found out an friend of mine was in one of the carriages at the metro station when it happened, but luckily is ok. It's is truly scary and terrible. I hope you find strength to make a decision and either way, you will be justified in picking what you do. Lots of love and peace.
A beautiful & poignant picture tribute to those who have fallen by the hand of terrorism in the city of Brussels, and a reminder that we all need the Good Shepherd in our lives especially in times of our deepest distress. Thank you so much for sharing. A fav of my heart.
This a beautiful image of such a beautiful church. There is something special and serene about this that really touches me. We are living in some troubled times, and sometimes faced with incredibly difficult decisions. You will make the right decision, whatever that is. This site contains a wonderful community that reminds of the resilience of the human spirit and that kindness and compassion still exist in the wider world. Safe travels always, wherever you go.
