This is my mum & I with our floral tributes, at the Anzac Day dawn service at Villers Bretonneux.
We left our hotel at 2.30am....it was cold, and there was rain forecasted - but we didn't mind at all, as we knew that all those who served here in WW1 would have faced much harsher conditions, for a much longer period of time...just a few hours of being cold was nothing really, we would have done anything to be able to be there. As it turned out, not one drop of rain fell while we were there.
At the time of laying our tributes during the public wreath laying ceremony, our names were announced, along with the name of who we were honouring, which was my Grandfather, Arthur H Bentley. This was the first year that the Dept of Veteran's Affairs did the public wreath laying like this, which I thought was a great idea, as it made it just that little bit more personal & special.
Lest We Forget
(photo was not technically taken by me, but was taken with my camera by another tour member....and I really wanted to use it for today's photo as part of my project)
What a wonderful tribute and I totally understand wanting to use it in your project. I guess it was your mum's dad you were honouring? What an emotional experience, and how fantastic that you were able to be there with your mum.
@jamibann yes, my mum's father....he was 30 when he enlisted, and never married until he returned & went on to have 9 kids...but sadly, my mum was only 4 years old when he passed away :( Thanks so much for your kind words
