We spent 4 nights in Ypres, just around the corner from the town/market square....making everything within walking distance. This is just one of the many shots taken in the square. All the buildings there are sooooo old, which is what makes them so appealing to me. This row of buildings is mostly restaurants, of which we ate at 2 of them, and loved them both.
One of the highlights for me while in Ypres, was participating in the wreath laying as part of the last post ceremony at the Menin Gate....I was lucky enough to be chosen by our tour guide, along with 2 other tour members, and I got to wear my Grandfather's medals. Unfortunately, the photos that my mum took (she's not too good with a camera...lol) did not come out too well (one even had our heads chopped off!!! lol), so I had to bypass these as a choice for today's photo. I am hoping that other tour members will be able to email me some photos they took, just so that I have them as a keepsake of this special memory.
I love the thought of your mum's photos! I spent a night in Ypres with my dad, when we did a tour of the area and the WW1 sites. It's a beautiful town - it rained all the time we were there though! It looks a bit wet in your photo too! Is that beside the cathedral?
@jamibann yes Issi, the cathedral is just to the left. It only rained for 10 mins or so....was heavy, but didn't last long. That's wonderful that you too got to do a similar tour with your dad 😊
