Emmaville Cottage by leggzy

Emmaville Cottage

The prefabricated cottage is believed to date from the 1850s. The American redwood panels were shipped from the United States and assembled to build large numbers of cottages in Australia.

The four room cottage is typical of early Australian vernacular architecture.

Located on Narrambla Estate, a noteworthy landholding of the Orange district c1830's and significant to Australian literature, as Andrew "Banjo" Patterson was born on the property in February 1864. The cottage is believed to be one of the last farm buildings from the Narrambla property.

The cottage, missing its lean-to and out buildings, was relocated to the Orange Botanical Gardens precinct in 2013, having had extensive restoration work to preserve this historic building.
So glad to see some of these cottages being preserved -can't have been easy living under those conditions.

It's a shame the front looks so nice and clean and yet the roof looks old and tried. Lovely shot though 😉
