Chateau de Puilarens, one of the five 'Sons of Carcassone' They are often called Cathar Castles but are in fact castles belonging to local nobles who allowed Cathars to find sanctuary in them. This one stands at 690 metres over the pass that leads to the upper Aude valley. The picture was taken from the picnic site by the car park and we thought it was too hot to slog up there at mid day but we may go back early in a day or so and give it a go.
