Castle in the clouds

Chateau de Puilarens, one of the five 'Sons of Carcassone' They are often called Cathar Castles but are in fact castles belonging to local nobles who allowed Cathars to find sanctuary in them. This one stands at 690 metres over the pass that leads to the upper Aude valley. The picture was taken from the picnic site by the car park and we thought it was too hot to slog up there at mid day but we may go back early in a day or so and give it a go.
Makes you wonder how on earth they built them in such locations, very impressive.

That is very high! Hope you manage to go back there and get to walk up to it. Great photo.

Gorgeous composition and framing with the castle glimpsed tantalizingly through the tree branches.
