Took a wonderful boat trip to Smith Island yesterday. My first visit to this part of Md. It sits in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay and has been shrinking in size for centuries, because of a combination of its low elevation and storm erosion. If you live on Smith Island odds are you are a fisherman. I have never seen so many crab cages in my life. Children go to school on the island till high school and then take an hour boat ride to and from the island to Crisfield, Md. so they can attend the local high school. Our boat was that school boat. A little step back in time.
