Fledgling

Four common birds in the Aberdeen area that I’m not used to seeing. Blue Tit (fledgling in photo), Dunnock, Magpie and Swift were all visible in good numbers today. The first two in the list I’ve seen a total of 3 times in my 42 years in Shetland while the last two I’ve never seen at 60 degrees.
So pretty!

Odd that here we see swifts most days but swallows are now rare. I only saw my first house martin yesterday!

Didn’t realise one and two were so rare up there, but there again they need trees and bushes as a normal habitat and to provide insect food.
Knew Magpies didn’t get up that high,
Never noticed there were no Swift’s when I was on Shetland, but there again, they have such a short season even down by me.
First early May, though numbers only really show by mid May, and all gone before end of August.
Ive had 17 Magpies in the big Ash tree at the bottom of the garden all squawking to decide who’s pairing up with who.

@g3xbm We get good numbers of swallows nowadays. Rare when I first moved to Shetland.

lovely details - you're lucky seeing swifts, they've almost disappeared here - in the last few years, along with house martins and swallows
