Grutness Pier by lifeat60degrees

Grutness Pier

A very quiet coastal walk this morning. Parked the car at the Grutness Pier where the Good Shepherd IV was in from Fair Isle for supplies. After that We didn’t meet a soul on the way to the Lighthouse or down towards Jarlshof and the Hotel - must be February in Shetland.
that's fascinating - in the Perez books, Jimmy Perez's father is the captain of the Good Shepherd as well as crofting on Fair Isle. Jimmy was brought up on Fair Isle, boarded on Mainland for secondary school - which is background to some of the stories. He travelled/travels back and forth on the Good Shepherd.

@shannejw the school kids do now get back and forth by plane which is much more preferable to the ferry. Having said that when the fog intervenes they need the boat. It wouldn’t have been this Good Shepherd in Jimmy Perez’s school days that’s for sure.
