Chimom: yeah, she probably doesn't have an easy life. According to asian values her children should be taking care of her, but since she is out on the streets working she probably either doesn't have any children or they are so poor they need her to still contribute to the household. I felt a bit bad for her too, and she is selling these horrible little clay figures that nobody wants to buy and that all the other old ladies are also selling... But she was smiling and joking with the other women on the street, so I guess it is not all bad :)
thanks for the explanation, I do have a tender spot for older people, especially in those not very developed countries, they probably worked hard their whole life and still can't make ends meet... this makes sad.
Libby - I know, but I just can't figure out if it is a good idea, it is not very sustainable, I just wish they sold something people actually wanted to buy!
Chimom - I feel the same way, old people actually 'get to me' more than children I dunno why, and yes it does sting a bit in the heart when seeing them out there still working at that age...
It's so fun to see someone else posting Vietnam pictures. Great shot, where are all the people? Hoi An is always flooded with tourists when I go there.
Great catch on her expression.
Im the same as you with the older generation esp here when you know if they are older than even 40 or 50 they have been through and seen so much. They are often made to work for their families here too. The road out to the zoo for eg is known for its rows of begging elderly- as they look the most pathetic their families think they have a better chance of getting people to stop- its a case of damned if you do damned if you dont as the more you give the greater the expectation is for their earning potential but if you dont they often get beaten for not 'working' hard enough.
