I had NO idea you had cactus like this in Australia! This looks for all the world like it was taken in Arizona! Well, the things you learn here on 365!
You're so sweet to look through my overflow of pictures on Shutterfly and I always enjoy seeing what you thought of them. You got ahead of me tonight! I put up my favorite pictures from the day, along with the one I should be posting abut now, so you're the first to have had a preview. As it's after midnight, maybe I should wrap up the comments and get right to that!
Prickly Pear has a fruit; but you must handle it with tongs and when you cut it up, you have to be wearing gardening gloves... seriously! While in Melbourne one day, I was at a market and I picked up some of the fruit and found that they were furry; but really the 'furriness' was the fine prickles that lodged into my fingerprints.
It took me three days with a magnifying glass and tweezers to get them all out! How frustrating!
Hi Lois, lovely to meet another Queenslander. We should all meet up someday. Thank yo for you kind words on my photos.
We once drove from Melbourne - Brisbane via the Newell Highway. It was fascinating how the cactus slowly began appearing as we drove north and suddenly the roadside was full of them.
