This 1928 tome of Rudyard Kipling’s verse was my father’s favorite book. This worn little book is full of some real literary treasures. Here are the first lines of his “ROUTE-MARCHIN’” to give you an idea of his incredible narrative gift, as if any of us do not know Kipling. Smile.
“We’re marchin’ on relief over Injia’s sunny plains,
A little front o’ Christmas time an’ just be’ind the Rains,
Ho! get away, you bullock man, you’ve ‘eard the bugle blowed,
There’s a regiment a-comin’ down the Grand Trunk Road;” ...
This for the Flash of Red 2018 low light (low key) challenge and the February word “poetry”.
I'm the fortunate recipient of some of my dad's favorite books as well...he was a voracious reader! No Kindle can replace the look and feel of a book in your hand!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I had a time with “low light” photography yesterday, which I’m sure is the whole point of challenges, to teach us new tricks. Smile. This book is worn brown leather with gold writing and spine adornment, I sure didn’t like it in b&w low key.
one day i come visit and have a read of that wonderful book. somehow it is extra special to read the classics from the old books themselves. when i went to England a long time ago, i came across an exhibit at the Salisbury cathedral of part of the magna carta. lucky there were no tourists and i was able to stay and read all that was on exhibit, while my host's waited for me at a bistro having afternoon tea, although they were quite amused.
