Mrs. Theodore Atkinson Jr., and her flying squirrel for @Weezilou Louise’s birthday today
Artist John Singleton Copley (1738-1815) was the painter of choice for wealthy Bostonians. He painted Mrs. Atkinson in the European portrait style of the time. “The chained flying squirrel communicated to 18th century viewers that she was a fine lady of grace and discipline.” When I saw this painting at the Crystal Bridges Museum yesterday I knew I had to take a photo of it for Louise’s birthday today, she is our very own squirrel whisperer, after all. Happy birthday @weezilou! 😘
Well that’s an unusual pet for sure! Not sure Louise would need to have it on s lead with her whispering abilities! Lol!
Happy birthday Louise! Hope you have a fabulous family celebration 🍾🎂🎉🍰🍸
Oh Dearest Lou Ann! How delightfully priceless that is! This painting looks almost familiar to me; it's everything I love! I marvel at the painter's ability to so beautifully depict satin and lace! It was only 2 months ago I got so see a flying squirrel up close as we took a tour of the zoo in Massachusetts! If I noted that they're a bit flighty, you'd take me for trying to be punny... I'll keep whispering to my "PK" squirrels, and always remember my friends who lovingly associate me with them! Thank you! And thank you, also, for your kind thoughts and words: @henrir@gardenfolk@ludwigsdiana@pamknowler@suzanne234@gilbertwood@danette@365karly1@milaniet Looks like Lou Ann and I have a lot of the same friends in common! ♥
