Hey, you in front, don’t slam on your brakes! by louannwarren

Hey, you in front, don’t slam on your brakes!

The Fort Worth Longhorn Cattle Drive is held twice a day at the Stockyards National Historic District. Every detail of the cattle drive - from the saddles and hats to the boots and chaps - is authentic and historically true. Yesterday the cattle were following each other so close it made me think that if the one in front stopped suddenly they would all fall forward. The cattle drive is a fun “tourist-y” event. The Stockyards is the scene of the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo (established in 1896) held mid-January for several weeks.
What a great sight!! Your title made me laugh!! My goodness they definitely have long horns!! LOL!!

Interesting Lou Ann. I showed this to Harry as he loves cows! Such long horns! We wouldn't have liked to milk cows with horns like that!

@pamknowler @gijsje @365karly1 @henrir @mittens @beryl @pistache @happypat @ziggy77 @ludwigsdiana @carolmw @gilbertwood @pcoulson @olivetreeann @radiogirl Thank you so much for your great comments. The Longhorns are such a hardy breed of cattle, they can survive for days without water, so they were the best breed to drive to the railroad in Kansas to be shipped to the northeast and sold for their meat. Texas history is very intertwined with Longhorns, the Fort Worth cattle drive keeps that history alive. @happypat Their horns can measure 10 feet across but are normally “just” 4-6 feet wide! @henrir Thank you for your fav!

Would love to see this. My brother competed in the PRCA for a bit. In Florida, there is a cross Florida cattle drive once a year. It takes a week. I tried to photograph it one year, but torrential rain delayed them. I miss our cows.
