At the George Bush Presidential Library in Dallas. The exhibit showcased quite a few of the fifty-three First Ladies America has had, focusing on how they shaped history. The red velvet dress was worn by Dolley Madison, she had it made from curtains she took down at the White House when she had many important historical items removed in anticipation of the advancing British Army in 1814. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was the “eyes, ears and legs” for President Franklin D Roosevelt, who was stricken with polio and wheelchair bound. First Lady Laura Bush’s initiatives included education and women’s health. The Bush Museum has special exhibits several times a year as well as a permanent collection of the Bush presidency.
This looks really interesting. I’m sure we saw something a bit similar in Washington, but I think it was inaugural ball gown & the such like. I love history, even if it’s relatively modern history.
A lovely collage and interesting information . I just love the fact that Dolly Madison resolved to make her gown out of velvet curtains - so resourceful in the threat of war .
Thank you so much for your great comments and fav! The exhibit had so many interesting artifacts! Dolley Madison’s snuff box! She was really something, I’m going to see if I can find her biography, I would love to read it!
A meaningful and very interesting collage, Lou Ann! All the more reason for me to visit this museum the next time I'm in Dallas. I enjoyed your very informative narrative also! :-)
