This squirrel was digging all over the yard for acorns he buried last fall. He was also digging in the flower pots in the back yard, he was one determined fellow!
If you get red pepper flakes and sprinkle them on top of the soil in your flower pots it will deter the squirrels from digging there. It does give your soil a speckled appearance and you do have to refresh it every once in a while, but it works on my squirrels. It's really funny to watch them with the acorns. I don't think they really remember which one is theirs- they just dig them up by scent. Good shot!
A great capture -- they are a pain at hiding the nuts in all kind of places - I have had hazel-nur trees growing in flower-pots and tubs in the garden before now !
I hope he found some of his buried treasure:) They are so much fun to watch. When my mother was ill and living with us it was a huge treat for her to watch "Mary and Barry" scurrying around outside. Lovely memories for me. This is such a sweet shot.
Thank you all so much! A few blocks away from our home is a stand of pecan trees and more than once I’ve pulled up baby pecan trees growing from the nuts the squirrels bury!
