The beloved State of Texas Flower - Lupinus Texensis - the Bluebonnet!
Texas has all kinds of Bluebonnets: Big Bend, (or Chisos), Bajada, Silvery, Nebraska, and Sandyland (or Buffalo Clover). In 1901 we had only one Bluebonnet species, then in 1971 every Bluebonnet species grown in Texas became our State Flower. Regardless of it’s name, we love our Bluebonnets. The flowers are “densely arranged on a spike with an ice white terminal tip”. These were growing on a busy street in my town yesterday, I literally u-turned and parked and ran with my point and shoot to grab just a couple of photos. They come back year after year as long as you don’t walk on them or mow them till after the first freeze every winter. We love our Bluebonnets - we plunk babies and dogs down in the middle of a meadow of them and take hundreds of photos!
Yay! Love our Texas Bluebonnets! Fabulous capture, Lou Ann! We've been dog-sitting for friends in Wimberley this week but next week I'm going on some day trips to try to find some fields of Bluebonnets . . . I think there are some suggested locations around Fredericksburg and Marble Falls that should be in full bloom. Definitely a Texas fav! :-)
@gaylewood Oh there will be lots of bluebonnets where you are going. If you can, pick up the March issue of Texas Highways, it has several wildflower trails listed. Next week should be the perfect time to see the Bluebonnets this year!
Thank you so very much for commenting and for the favs. These ended up on the PP because of you! Thank you!
