Cedar split rail fence by louannwarren

Cedar split rail fence

For many years ranchers and farmers used cedar trees for fencing rails and posts. Then barbed wire came along and the cedar fences basically went away. Now they are more for aesthetics, businesses use them to lend a touch of “the old West” to their landscaping. This fence is at a big restaurant in a country setting, not too far from our home. Cedar trees really are beautiful with their beautiful bark, and they have a distinctive spicy scent. This is for the August Alphabet F - Fence word.
Magnificent capture Lou Ann, wonderful detail and texture. Fav

Well thought out and a nice bit of information to go along, Lou Ann! They do look a bit labor intensive!

Love that line of posts receding into the dustance. I am interested in fences as my youngest son is a fencer in NZ.

@ludwigsdiana @suzanne234 @mittens @Weezilou @mave @beryl @happypat @pcoulson @henrir @bigmxx @carole_sandford @gardenfolk @ingrid01 Thank you all for your wonderful comments, you put my fence on the TP and the PP! Thank you! The cedar fences have so much character and they last so long, but yes @Weezilou they sure are labor intensive. Barbed wire is more expensive but is so easy to install and maintain.

I really like the way you composed this one - the dof is marvelous - those old fences were so much nicer to look at than the barbed wire!

@olivetreeann @milaniet @jnorthington @bkbinthecity @danette @annied Thank you! I appreciate every one of your comments! This restaurant thought of everything for their property’s design. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and the neighborhood across the highway has gone before the city council raising cane about all the racket. Just goes to show you can’t think of everything when you are building a new place. 😊
