Close to the top of my “Cowboy” Christmas tree is this everyday southern and Texas phrase “Howdy Y’all”
“Howdy” is from the British dialect of the 1530’s, it is a shortened version of “how do ye?”. “Y’all” is the simplest term for a group of more than one person, at least in Texas!
The history of words is always enlightening, who knew “Howdy” was British in origin? The debate goes on and on about “Y’all”, obviously a shortened version of “you all”. You hear y’all all the time in Texas and in the Southern states, I’m not sure you hear Howdy many other places besides Texas.
When people look at the Cowboy tree they always comment on this ornament, it’s Texan to the core. Laugh out loud!
Lovely image could it be anywhere other than Texas Lou Ann, we have two trees also one children friendly that they can touch the other out of bounds for all but a select few adults I'm only allowed near it whilst under strict supervision, lol:)
How wonderful Lou Ann, i know a lady from the Southern States & she always says this & we love to hear it & we say 'how ya goin' mate' just for fun for her..I would so like to see your whole tree too.
@maggiemae So many fun phrases, everywhere. There was a TV show years ago called “Howdy Doody Time” with a great ventriloquist dummy of the same name. So fun.
@happysnaps Thank you Valerie! I love how many variations there are of this phrase!
@pcoulson Your wife is a smart woman, to decorate a tree for you and the children, ha!
@joansmor@henrir@ludwigsdiana@mittens@carolmw@taffy@beryl@gilbertwood Thank you for your great comments and faves! I will have to look and see if I put the whole tree on 365 last December. If I didn’t I will put it on in a few days. It’s a lot prettier close up, I’ll tell you!
@sarah19@365karly1 Thank you ladies! This tree is just 4’ tall, and loaded with many ornaments from our travels through Texas and the southwest. I looked back and I did put the whole tree on last Christmas, I’ll do a collage of some of the ornaments in the next few days. This popped on the TP and PP! Thank you!
My in-laws are in Corpus Christi (transplants from NJ) and they really enjoy life in TX. I think they'd get a kick out of your Texas tree. Fun ornament!
