The parishioners and community volunteers gather every June to clean the adobe and mix clay, sand, straw and water to apply a fresh layer of adobe to every surface of the church, from top to bottom. This event is called the “Enjarre”. This adobe surface was peeling on one of the back exterior walls when we were there. I doubt they wait till June to repair these peeling places. The walls are 3 feet thick so there isn’t any issue of water getting inside the church.
Another fascinating photo and information! I have been trying to figure out why these church shots appeal to me so much. I guess it’s the color combination with the blue sky but I am not sure.
