Roll On

I always like the saying that "the best camera is the one you have with you". Which is all fine and dandy until you don't have the camera you ought to.

It was a dark and grey day today, high 30's , wet (but the rain had stopped). No day for a lunchtime walk, but not bad for photo hunting. Sadly, I had left my DSLR and my compact digital at home, so my iPhone was the last resort. And I actually found several shots I rather liked. But shot with the iPhone, and processed in snapseed? Well, I'm not thrilled.

Worst thing? Sitting at my desk, I double checked my brief case, and there was my compact digital! Many muttered grumbles followed. Hopefully I can manage something worthwhile with the rest when I get to my computer this evening.

This farm is in Trenton, IL, per the gps on my phone. About 30 miles east of St. Louis, MO, USA.

The iPhone hasn't done a bad job at all. I like the grey graininess of the day and the sharp stubble of the field.

I interpret the 'best camera' saying to have 2 meanings. First is I can't take a photo without a camera. Second is if the equipment I have doesn't allow capturing the desired image, that's an opportunity to treat the subject in a different way. Preferably one out of my comfort zone. Some times I remember to think 'How would (insert name of someone I follow on 365) capture and edit this?'

@helenhall @fotoblah Thanks for the comments, and insights. And I don't "hate" this image... it just doesn't match my vision when I took it.

Grey winter days are most depressing. Maybe your compact digital was playing hide and seek? Anyway, I like the drab feel of this, it makes the shorn field a powerful component of your composition.

@joysabin Thanks Walks@7! Overall, I really like the camaera in the iPhone. And this image is far from "bad". Just not as crisp as I'd hoped.

@lsquared I too like my iPhone6 camera, still learning how best to use.

@joysabin I never had an iPhone 6, but the improvement in the camera from 5 to 7 was significant. It will be interesting to see how it is on my next phone.
