It was actually lunch but any time he stops by is a good time. Well, not a good time for the rodent he caught. I had just come in from doing some macros when I saw him. Didn't think I had enough time to go get the telephoto so decided to see how close I could get with the 105mm. Not close enough. He let me get probably 30' away. He flew off with his lunch about 30 seconds later.
You can never tell how close they will let you get. One let me walk to about 5' I stopped there because I didn't want to get any closer. Of course I didn't have a camera on me. During the summer they sit on a trellis and terrorize the goldfish. They are not afraid of people at all probably because no one ever bothers them.
@jupiter394 That is cropped quite a bit. I could crop it more but hesitated to crop too much. I deleted the photo and re-added because I accidently posted the cropped but unprocessed photo. That is why your post is gone.
