light the way

I was inspired by Brian Baptie's technique in his 'Abstract city' http://365project.org/bdb3471/365/2012-03-09 , and here I layered a shot of a candle with one of a sparkler (which had a ripple filter effect applied). This was my first attempt, and I can see lot's of interesting possibilities when I have a bit more time & practice. Thanks Brian!

I would also like to thank everyone for such a wonderful & unexpected response to my 'suburban sky fire' shot. It is lovely knowing so many have also enjoyed that special moment. Thanks for taking the time to drop in, or comment and / fav. You are a wonderful group of people. :)
Well done. Looks great!

This is very cool! The candle shot by itself is very nice. Adding the sparkler made it special! Great effect.

@simster I used PSP - this was a very quick first attempt - I used a tripod to take shots of the candle & a sparkler separately (using different exposures for each). I applied a ripple effect to the sparkler image with a filter to make the lines more interesting, then layered it in 'screen' mode over the top of the candle image. The black background of the sparkler layer disappears in screen mode, and only the light trails are visible - so no masking or anything is needed. (instant 'bling'!!)

I Resized, rotated and positioned the flare. Quickly cloned the little arrowy type flare and placed two in the bottom left corner to balance the shot (resized and mirrored one of the clones to make it look a little more natural.) cheers, xx.
