Don't these birds pick bugs off of water buffalo? Maybe they do the same for the zebra, or more likely, the bird picks off the bugs that the zebra stirs up in the grass.
@falcon11 You are right Allison, they do pick bugs off animals, maybe they also find something in the grass. The bigger egrets with some yellowish feathers are called cattle egrets :-)
