as most things in this country, the railways don't function everywhere either. There is a guard sitting on the platform to make sure nothing gets stolen.
When one thinks that Stellenbosch is a university town with over 32,000 students, it is rather sad. This would be the station just before Stellenbosch (which is in the same condition)There is not even a functioning bus system here.
That's cushy job for that man though I don't know how he can stick sitting there doing nothing day after day. We have people like him in govt. or govt. agency employment. Normally they would be friends of friends and the people pay. Having said this I like your capture of this lovely scene. Even the derelict station looks nice in this environment.
A great perspective! I understand your frustration. It is really too bad that they don't maintain it. It would be a wonderful thing for students for sure!
It is so sad that the world class rail system we had before has been left to go to ruin so that it cannot ever function again without being almost completely rebuilt
A great perspective for your capture of the grey run-down station, backdropped by the warm colours of the fields. But yes, this is a sad state of affairs. Fav
It definitely looks sad and lonely and only the sun seems to be bright enough to smile. Stations like this are hit or miss here. In some places they're up and running but others have been shut down over time. Good catch!
The shops and buildings you photographed before looked so loved and well cared for, it seems surprising that the infrastructure is not being supported. Beautiful background in your capture.
Nicely composed shot!
