where all the cables and wires are just hanging down. Part of the overfly bridge can be seen, built at a huge cost the year before covid.
For those who commented on yesterdays post. Many trains are not functioning for different reasons here. One being vandalism where tracks and cables get stolen, seats get ripped out and passengers get tossed out of moving trains.
Another is the taxi mafia that sets the trains alight in Cape Town station, so that more people need to use the taxis (overcrowded mini busses)
On one track, people have built their shacks as there was no more space available, the government is trying to evict them, very unsussessfully. This country is in dire straights unfortunately
Oh Diana - what a dreadful state of affairs for you and your country. What you have described just seems so impossible to imagine for someone who doesn't actually live there.
Can you see anything improving in the future?
That is very sad information. Pity all the money spent to see this all derelict. Educating the people should be first and foremost to teach people to care for others and for what is not theirs. Unfortunately you will find vandals in every country.
I saw from your previous photos that the infrastructure looks good.
However, in what you have just described, the situation is really not so good. Take good care.
Your image tells a sad story. Great capture. There are some urban areas in my country that are in similar dire straits. Some of it is the result of Covid and worthless government politicians.
Documenting today's precarious-uncertain world is both necessary and sad. Seattle has become quite lawless resulting in increased crime. Seattle's police dept was defunded leaving only 900 police officers where there should be at least 1400.
@robz@wakelys No it is getting worse due to our corrupt government and lawlessness in this country. I would leave tomorrow, but Harry loves playing golf all year round. That would not be possible in Germany ;-)
Wow! This is another piece of documentation! The scene you describe, Diana, is unbelievable to me. As @rensala says, we don't hear about this at all in our news. I can't imagine the daily stress you must be under. Thank you for explaining this. Take care.

Your nation really is in a bad way, isn't it? So sorry to read stories like this.
However, in what you have just described, the situation is really not so good. Take good care.
