Myself in B&W by lyndemc

Myself in B&W

Oh yikes - I can't believe I'm actually going to post this picture. I've told myself I really must make an effort to get more photos of myself in the family album. It's so much easier being on the other side of the camera though, at least for this gal.

With this week's B&W focus being on the use of light, I took advantage of the brief hour of sun this morning.
I love this shot of you the light hitting the side of your face. It is beautiful. I love your eyes, your eyes and subtle smile.

That's a cool selfie. I will have to be brave and post one myself at some point. :)

Well, it's a good thing the portrait is in black and white because otherwise you could now see me blushing. Your generous comments and compliments are all so sweet!!!! And the fav's? I didn't mean for any of you to do that, but look, you've put this pic on the Popular Page. So much for going quietly unnoticed. :) I'd have never done this if it hadn't been for the b&w challenge of seeking the right light. I got lucky yesterday.

Thank you again.

You've done well to get this wonderful selfie - that would be a real challenge - but I love the idea of doing it in b&w - you sure hit your lighting so well. That focus on your lovely eyes shows such a warm friendly look. I'm really happy to put a face with a name and wonderful pictures.
February 19th, 2015
What a great portrait.
February 19th, 2015
I wouldn't miss the opportunity for a minute to put my fave on this! I love to save the photos of the people I've come to know and enjoy on this site! It's a beautifully photographed portrait; the lighting is wonderful, and you look terrific!
February 19th, 2015
Fabulous self portrait, how can you not be pleased with this? Wonderful lighting, great pose. You have amazing hair and the light is catching it beautifully. I love that even the darker side of the image has some detail and you have caught catch lights in your eyes which bring the photo alive. Great work - be proud of this photo. And Congrats on PP - well deserved.

As always thank you so much for your kind words. Tell me a little more about this shot, was it taken indoors using light from a window, and how did you get the black background, it really is very good. I have been trying to take some indoor portraits and failed miserably, I just can't seem to get a flattering light, and my 7D just can't cope with the low light, so frustrating, I am sorely tempted to throw my money at a 5D Mlll, as I read so many good things about it.
February 21st, 2015
@jo13 Yes, this photo was taken indoors with window light on a blue sky/sunny day (meaning not just a hazy light). There is a corner wall not far behind that's painted dark brown which is what created the black background. Even in the colored version of this photo the background is black. I can't say enough wonderful things about the 5D. I loved my 7D but when I compared the picture quality between the two cameras there was an incredible difference in the clarity and sharpness of the images. That feature alone was enough to convince me to allow the investment in the equipment. Its low-light capabilities are amazing as well. You won't regret throwing your money at a MarkIII.

@lyndemc Music to my ears, if I ever needed a good reason to upgrade, image quality and low-light abilities are the magic words, my only concern is that the lenses i have at present will not be as well suited as they are on the 7D, so frustrating. Ps, thanks for the info.

Beautiful self portrait, I'm happy to see your smiling face. I know what you mean about not being in any family pictures, this one will be a great addition to the family gallery. Beautiful lighting and great in B&W! fav

This is a nice portrait - love the dramatic lighting. I too prefer to be on the other side of the camera - sometimes I wonder if the grand girls will remember what I looked like - very few photos of me - only when I HAVE to get into the family shot. :)
February 23rd, 2015
Such a lovely soft portrait. The light is perfect.
February 24th, 2015
This is an outstanding self-portrait, Denise - I refuse to say 'selfie' as this is far too elegant for such a vulgar epithet - and stunning with the black background. Fav.
February 24th, 2015
I'm trying to catch up on my viewing and commenting... this is a wonderful shot of you. Fantastic light and lovely natural expression. Fav
February 28th, 2015
The tripod and remote are a real blessing for getting into the photos with family. But self portraits can be hard to do. This one is wonderful in all respects. Glad you posted it.

@pauliek Thank you Paulette. I will say it took numerous tries to get the focus right. Glad I was the only one home at the time as my antics in achieving this pic were rather comical at times.
